Ryan Idol on stage
Just as my deadline for this issue was looming, the following tidbit of information came my way courtesy of über-agent David Forest. It seems none other than Ryan Idol will be playing the late Joey Stefano onstage in a new play called Blueboys at the Ashland Street Theatre in Houston. Written by Gregg Rodriguez, the production will also feature Chi Chi LaRue and David Geffen as characters. As you may know, Stefano was the focus of a never-released independent film called Porn Star (with none other than Kyle Bradford in the lead role), two stage plays (Homme Fatale and Divine Thing, both subtitled The Joey Stefano Story), and the Charles Isherwood biography Wonder Bread and Ecstasy. By the time you folks read this item, Blueboys will have concluded its five-week run (July 25 to August 25). Next month Ill try to have more on the play, as well as Mr. Idols performance. Ryan Idol as Joey Stefano? I really dont know what to say about that.
Duke and Brady: We Hardly Knew Em
Straight Boy Trauma is a term I coined a few years ago to explain the particular phenomena of straight models who enter the gay erotica industry and then exit stage left almost immediately. The reasons for their departure usually have to do with their inability to reconcile their own sexuality with the reality of being paid to have sex with other men. Sometimes these guys go away for a while to clear their heads, then come back renewed and psychically stronger.
Then there are the casualties. Case in point: Duke Miller and Brady Martin. Both recently entered the XXX industry with a splash. Miller appeared in Married Cops Do (Big Blue Prods.) and All Worlds Videos The Seven Deadly Sins: Pride. Martin was in Goosed at First Sight! (Stable), At Large from MSR Videos, and Palmers Lust (Pacific Sun). Both were in the business for less than six months. Both also considered themselves heterosexual. Whether they are or not is a moot point. I sort of feel bad for them, because havent we all been there?
Still, the gay porn business is no place for insecure straight boys. Youd think they would cop to that fact, wouldnt you? Its curious how many of them find their way to our side of the street. The straight model secure enough in his (hetero)sexuality to be able to have sex with other men and make it look convincing is rare enough to be considered an aberration. Shane Rockland is one who comes to mind, and another could be Rex Chandler. Im told the same is true about Luke Savage, although Ive never met him. But Shane Rockland has only topped, I hear some of you say. Savage, on the other hand, is a vigorous bottom. Well, as Ive said before, butt-fucking doesnt make you gay. If Luke Savage dreams about gay men fucking him and seeks out gay men to fuck him on his own time, then hes gay. But the simple fact of a cock in another mans ass doesnt make that man gay.
In any case, at last word Duke Miller and Brady Martin both were engaged to be married (to women, natch). Im a little disappointed with Martins decision because I gave him the name Brady. He was the first porno model I ever named. I guess Ill have to pick more carefully in the future
Finally this month
The beleaguered Kyle Bradford posted a message on his website May 30 stating his retirement from the XXX industry, and his desire to return to a non-public life. He also mentioned that he was writing a book. So much for retiring.
Additionally, KyleBradford.com and two additional URLs he owned were sold on eBay in May and early June. As of June 4th, one day before the auction closed, all three URLs (plus the rights to his Bad Boys Nude Wrestling and Submission Wars 1 & 2) were going for $5,100 after 16 bids. Thats a fire sale.
